The photographs of David Bailey from his early fashion photographs on New York Street corners to his more recent collaborations with Damien Hirst have always been designed to provoke and outrage. A combination of sexualised imagery with portents of death is to be found in much of his work, building on similar concerns in Surrealist imagery.

In this highly charged photograph two young women kiss but as much prominence is given to the skull: as with a vanitas still-life, fecundity contrasts with intimations of mortality.

Vintage photographs presented by Flash Projects include pre-owned photographs, including press images which may have been frequently handled. Flash Projects is happy to send condition reports of any contemporary edition or vintage work on request. Condition reports are provided as a service to interested parties, and buyers should note that descriptions of property are not warranties. Each item is sold ‘as is’.
